A World of Darkness Vs. The Hope for Light
Do you ever have that feeling that nothing you do is right? Do you ever feel like whatever you do always turns out wrong? Like nothing you do or say can make things better? And everything you say just makes things worse? Do you ever have that feeling like you don't know what to say because you don't want it to come out wrong? Do you ever look for truth and never find anything? Does it sometimes feel like your care and your kindness goes unnotice? Does it ever seem like you can never be good enough?
I think we all feel like that sometimes.....feel that sense of worthlessness and shame. Feel like all the care in the world wouldn't change a thing. The world is rotten place. It's full of ignorant hypocrites that pray for peace and justice and freedom then go and deny everything they say. It's full of arrogant jerks that think they're are god, that what they says goes. It's full of uncaring people that never give a thought to what's really happening.
Do you think we could change that? or do you think we'll just get worse with time? People don't change....no matter how much we want them to. They can't. Some might say they've changed but when the time comes and you're faced with the temptation, you're going to crack. Put a ex-drug addict that's been in rehab who says he's been clean for six years in a room with a table that has a pile of cocaine on it along with the different ways to use it and leave him there alone for several days. sooner or later, he's going to crack and use cocaine even though he's been drug free for six years. It's human nature. however much we say that we can change, it's not possible. once a cheater, always a cheater. once a liar, always a liar. Once a smoker, always a smoker. You can't escape it. It'll haunt you for the rest of your life.
But sometimes, you just see that special moment...that special spark in a person's eyes that gives you the hope that something will change. That there really is some good in people. That there is light amongst the dark. You see two young lovers, so deeply and passionately in love and it gives you hope that there is such thing as true love and that this place isn't just full of assholes. You see people giving money or gifts or food to the poor and homeless and it gives you hope that people really do care about others and not just about themselves. You see people risking their lives for others and it gives you hope that people have courage and strength and don't run from their responsibilities. There are some things in life that are worth fighting for. That are worth dying for. And it's those things that you hang onto.
We all have a sense of hopelessness or worthlessness in our lives at times....and sometimes we just want to end it all. get rid of the pain, the torment, the tears, the sleepless nights. But...we see those moments that give us courage to go on, give us strength to perservere, give us hope that there is light in the a sea of darkness, give us faith that there is something better out there. And it's those moments that we have to hang onto, we have to remember. Because without those moments, where would the light be? where would love be? where would life be? It's those moments that can change the unchangeable. It's those moments that give hope and light back to a world of darkness.
